On May 21-25, 2018, in Almaty, on the basis of the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a master class will be held with the participation of foreign specialists from Russia “Surgical treatment of patients with retinoblastoma” dedicated to conservative treatment of a malignant intraocular tumor of the retinoblastoma. Within the framework of the master class, for the first time in the country, selective intraarterial chemotherapy for children with retinoblastoma and will be operated on patients whose applications were submitted to the working body on the direction of Kazakhstan citizens abroad for treatment.

To participate in the master class invited doctors of the National Medical Research Oncology Center named after N.N.Blohina (Moscow), angiosurgeon Trofimov I.A. and anesthesiologist L.A. Martynov, who will perform a selective intraarterial chemotherapy operation on four children with retinoblastoma.

As oncologists, pediatricians, ophthalmologists from all regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan are invited to attend the master class.

Retinoblastoma is 90% among intraocular neoplasms in children and is characterized by high malignancy. Every year, 8100 new cases of retinoblastoma are diagnosed in the world, of which 570-810 are newborns. Retinoblastoma is characterized by an aggressive course with the filling of the entire eyeball with tumor tissue, germination in the optic nerve, orbit, and brain. The tumor is a threat not only in the form of vision loss, but also in the form of high mortality due to metastasis and the development of second malignant neoplasms in other organs.

In Kazakhstan, since 2016, all children with identified retinoblastoma receive treatment at the Scientific Center for Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Kazakh Research Institute of Eye Diseases initiated the introduction of this technology in the Republic of Kazakhstan, its introduction into the guaranteed amount of free medical care, prepared for revision of the Clinical Protocol "Retinoblastoma in Children", which introduced the selective intraarterial chemotherapy method and other organ-preserving methods of treatment. After approval by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the selective intraarterial chemotherapy method will be implemented in the practice of the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery of the Ministry of Health, where children's oncology service and interventional surgery are consolidated and where all children with retinoblastoma undergo basic treatment.

Introduction and development of organ-retinoblastoma treatment methods will allow the citizens of Kazakhstan receive free tertiary care at home, while keeping an eye both anatomical and functional organ.
