At the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Children’s Surgery, a 3-year-old child diagnosed with atresia of the esophagus - this congenital malformation of the gastrointestinal tract, a perfect operation for plastic surgery of the esophagus was performed.

Previously, the boy could not eat on his own and was fed through a special tube in his stomach.

The uniqueness of this operation lies in the fact that the esophagus, which was not passable from birth, was replaced by the stomach. The operation lasted for 5 hours, in which the stomach was passed through the chest and connected to the remainder of the esophagus in the neck. Now part of the stomach will perform the function of the esophagus, so the child can independently eat food through his mouth.

The operation was carried out successfully by the head of the department of surgery, doctor of medical sciences Akhparov Nurlan Nurkinovich, who has extensive experience in the surgical correction of congenital malformations of the digestive tract.

Now, the child's condition has improved, the boy has been transferred from intensive care to the department where he can eat on his own.

Annually more than 300 children from different regions are operated on for congenital malformations of the digestive system at the SCPCS. Operations to replace the esophagus, without the involvement of foreign specialists, are carried out in Kazakhstan only at the SCPCS, on average 6-7 such operations are performed per year using various techniques.

The reasons for the development of congenital malformations in children are various factors that affect the development of the fetus during the period of organ laying. Therefore, the main prevention is preserving the health of mothers, timely registration of pregnant women and regular dynamic monitoring of their health.
