At the National Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery, with the participation of His Excellency Yasumasa Iijima, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Kazakhstan, the opening ceremony was held for the first operating room in the Republic equipped with the latest expert-class equipment — the Calculase III laser system. This equipment will make it possible to perform high-tech surgical interventions in the field of pediatric urology.

"Innovations are rapidly transforming the operating room, increasing its functionality and efficiency. The Calculase III laser system is being used for the first time in pediatric urology in Kazakhstan for the endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of various congenital and acquired diseases of the urinary system in children.

Every year, more than 50 children are admitted to NCPPS for surgical treatment of lower urinary tract pathology. Operations used to be performed via open surgery, taking up to 2 hours under intubation anesthesia, with hospitalization periods of up to 14 days. The introduction of new technologies makes it possible to minimize trauma to the surgical site and reduce anesthesia time. The duration of the operation is now 20 minutes, and after 'light' mask anesthesia, the child is handed back to the mother. Hospitalization periods have been reduced to 7 days.

The main advantage of this method is its minimal invasiveness, which reduces the risks of surgical treatment and postoperative recovery, and shortens both the duration of the operation itself and the patient's hospital stay," noted Bakytzhan Abekenov, Head of the Urology Department.

We would like to remind you that the acquisition of this expert-class equipment was made possible through charitable assistance from the Government of Japan, provided free of charge under the "KUSANONE" (Grassroots) grant program, in the amount of $74,900. NCPPS successfully passed all stages of the competitive selection process, and the equipment was installed at the hospital this summer.

The "KUSANONE" (Grassroots) program is a charitable project of the Government of Japan providing grant assistance as part of ensuring human security.

Gulnara Abdilova, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board for Clinical Work, Candidate of Medical Sciences, noted that surgical treatment has already been performed for more than 15 patients to date, with good effectiveness observed and a noticeable improvement in patients' quality of life. She emphasized that no other pediatric medical institution in the Republic of Kazakhstan currently has this kind of expert-class equipment, and expressed deep gratitude to the people and Government of Japan for this invaluable gift.

After the ceremonial assembly, the Center's guests toured the operating room and viewed the equipment: a cystourethrofiberscope, and the Calculase III laser system for lithotripsy.
