As part of the Days of Kazakhstani Medicine in Uzbekistan, one of the leading specialists of the National Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery, neonatal surgeon and Head of the Neonatology and Newborn Surgery Department Gulmira Tolepbekovna Kaukenbayeva, held a training master class at the Republican Children's Multidisciplinary Center in Nukus and shared her experience with Uzbek colleagues.

The two-day master class was attended by 28 specialists from Uzbekistan: neonatologists, pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists-resuscitators, and heads of departments at the children's center.

Purpose of the event: To enhance the professional knowledge and practical skills of neonatologists and pediatric surgeons in the diagnosis, treatment, and postoperative management of newborns with congenital surgical conditions.

During the master class, modern approaches to diagnosing congenital gastrointestinal diseases were presented, and clinical examples and perioperative management algorithms for newborns with various congenital defects were discussed.

Special attention was given to patient routing for congenital defects — from prenatal diagnosis through the surgical and postoperative periods — as well as coordination of the multidisciplinary team. In addition, professional discussions were held with Uzbek colleagues on the stages of surgical treatment, selection of surgical methods, equipping departments with modern equipment, and improving the quality of specialist training.

As part of the master class, Gulmira Kaukenbayeva, a top-category neonatal surgeon, saw patients in Nukus.

"Consultations were provided for 21 neonatal patients with various pathologies and surgical conditions. Master class participants received practical recommendations on the diagnosis and management of these patient categories. Proposals were formed for further cooperation, remote consultations, and the organization of subsequent training events. The master class was held at a high organizational and professional level. The event contributed to improving specialists' qualifications and enhancing patient routing and specialized care for newborns with surgical pathology. Participants showed strong interest, highlighting the need for regular educational programs of this kind in the region," said Gulmira Kaukenbayeva, neonatal surgeon at NCPPS.

As part of the Days of Kazakhstani Medicine in Uzbekistan, Kaukenbayeva also presented NCPPS's achievements in neonatal surgery, including the use of innovative treatment methods for giant liver masses in the neonatal period.
