25 years ago, there was opened a department of pediatric oncohematology for 60 bunks on the basis of the Department of Pediatric Oncology and Pediatric Surgery for the first time in cooperation with the charitable organization "CEW (clinical and expert work) -Germany" and with support by the first lady Sara Alpysovna Nazarbayeva, under the direction of the director academician Ormantaev Kamal Saruarovich and Professor Omarova Kulyan Omarovna.

 

 

Within the framework of the anniversary in Almaty on June 21-22, 2018 there was held an international scientific and practical conference as "25 years of development of the children's oncohematological service: achievements and prospects".

         Leading specialists in the field of pediatric oncology and hematology from 12 countries of the world, including CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) scientists, representatives of parental societies took part in the conference which supported by Ministry of public health and which organized by the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Children's Surgeons and the Republican Public Association "Union of Pediatricians of Kazakhstan" and non-governmental organizations.

         The main aim of the conference is to discuss actual problems of diagnostics and treatment of neoplasms in children, development of international and interregional cooperation, joint efforts to prevent early diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases in children. There are discussed organizational aspects of providing specialized and high-tech medical services to children and teenagers with oncological and hematological diseases, innovative technologies for diagnosis and treatment of oncological and hematological diseases of childhood, topical issues of early diagnosis and treatment, psychological and social aid to children with oncological and hematological diseases and their families.

         Doctors oncologists and hematologists all over the world set one of the most important tasks for themselves: increasing the survival of children with oncological diseases and informing the public that most of these diseases are remediable today. Today, there are two republican centers for the provision of medical care to children, in which about 5,000 children with malignant neoplasms undergo treatment for a year.

        Riza Boranbayeva, Director of Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery, made a keynote speech on the achievements and perspectives of development of the children's oncology and hematology service in the Republic of Kazakhstan: "The achievements of oncohematological care for the children's population in the Republic of Kazakhstan over the past 25 years have come close to the world's result of treatment. So in the RK, about 80% of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia are recovered. Existence of children's oncohematological center for 25 years, there have been trained high- qualified specialists, there have been introduced modern diagnostic programs and programs for acute leukemia treatment and solid swelling treatment, there have been successfully mastered new technologies for diagnosing and therapy severe blood diseases of children's age, including bone marrow transplantation, there are implemented rehabilitation of children with oncological and hematological diseases in the republican clinical sanatorium "Alatau", there are conducted a large information-explanatory work with the population and PHC doctors on oncological alertness (oncoalertness). As R. Boranbaeva noted that the development of the service of children's oncology and hematology in our country allowed to give a chance to be recovered to our many small patients, and only 25 years ago these diseases were considered cureless. R. Boranbaeva noted.

The flagship of the republic's pediatric service, including pediatric oncology, is the Scientific Center for Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery (SCPPS) is a flagship of the republic's pediatric service, including pediatric oncology.

One of the first in the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) and Central Asia, the Scientific Center for Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery introduced modern leukemia treatment programs according to the protocols of the German-Austrian group BFM (Berlin, Frankfurt, Munster).

          At the opening of the international conference the deputy head for coordination of activities of medical organizations of the Almaty Health Department J. Kenzhebayeva, SPA (Scientific-Production Association) leaders and foreign guests gave a congratulatory speech. The most exciting moment was speeches with thanksgiving words of adult patients who had suffered an oncological disease in childhood, as well as their parents.

"For me, today is a big holiday, of our common victory. This disease with the diagnosis of lymphoblastic leukemia began when I was15, at that time it was very hard for people to win this disease. But thanks to the BFM (Biodynamic Fascial Modulation) program it became possible for many children to win the disease and return to normal life. How many lives were saved and how many important moments you gave to many parents. Now I live a full life, working in a leadership position. I express great gratitude to all the doctors of the oncological / hematological service", said Bakhytzhan Tashenov.

         At the conference, thanksgiving letters were awarded to doctors who contributed to the formation and development of the oncohematological service of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

         During the conference, the founder of the school of children's childhood oncohematology - the doctor of medical sciences, the professor, with selfless labor who made an invaluable contribution to saving the lives of children, Kulyan Omarovna Omarova, was also honored.

         For all the years of oncohematological service development, the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery has cooperated with many near and far abroad Centers that provided consulting and practical help in diagnosing and treating patients with severe forms of tumors and blood diseases, also they trained young specialists both at their centers, and by conducting master classes on various topical issues of pediatric oncology and hematology. During the conference, special thanks were paid to the work of foreign partners. Letters of thanks were awarded to the Alexander Rumyantsev - director of the National Medical Research Center of Children's Oncology and Immunology named after Dmitry Rogachev, to professor Olga Aleinikova - Head of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Pediatric Oncology and Immunology of Belarus, to candidate of medical science Larisa Fechina - deputy chief doctor for Oncology and Hematology of the Regional Children's Clinical Hospital No. 1, .Ekaterinburg.

         The role of non-governmental organizations and charity foundations in saving lives of children and in the development of oncohematological services was particularly noted: the Charity Fund "Voluntary Society" Mercy ", PF (Public Fund)" Healthy Asia ", PF "HelpToday", PF "Amyla, Association "AsylBala".

         A bright episode of the grand opening of the conference was the demonstration of a new collection of children's clothes for princes and princesses "HappyKingdom", where the models were children who won the cancer.

     Nowadays in the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery (SCPPS) children has been treated from all malignant neoplasms, the accessibility and quality of medical services have improved, the state is funding the service in full. In 2012, there was introduced a transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells in children.

         Next success in the treatment of childhood cancer in Kazakhstan will depend on early modern diagnosis, on active participation of our specialists in joint international educational and scientific projects and on the improvement of therapeutic technologies, including transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells.

         In the Republic of Kazakhstan, malignant neoplasm (MNP) is diagnosed on an average of about 600 children annually for the first time. On average, about 5000 children with malignant neoplasms undergo treatment in republican centers.
