In Almaty, June 21-22, 2018, an international scientific-practical conference “25 years of development of pediatric oncohematological service: achievements and prospects”, organized by the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery and the Republican Public Association “Union of Pediatricians of Kazakhstan”, with the support of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The conference will bring together leading experts in the field of pediatric oncology hematology from 12 countries, including the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, representatives of non-governmental organizations, parents' associations, where a wide range of topical issues in the treatment of childhood cancer will be discussed.
The main purpose of the conference will be the discussion of topical problems of diagnosing and treating neoplasms in children, the development of international and interregional cooperation, and pooling efforts to warn about the need for early diagnosis and treatment of cancer in children.
Doctors’ oncologists and hematologists throughout the world have set themselves one of the most important tasks is to increase the survival of children with cancer and to inform the public that the majority of these diseases are curable today.
The flagship of the pediatric service of the republic including pediatric oncology, a Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery (SCPPS). It is significant that this conference is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the national children's oncohematological service.
One of the first in the CIS and Central Asia, the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery Program has introduced contemporary leukemia treatment protocols German-Austrian group BFM (Berlin, Frankfurt, Munster). This treatment with high-dose chemotherapy in SCPPS held for over 25 years and treatments of approaching the world, so the RK at the present time recovering about 80% of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
In the Republic of Kazakhstan, a malignant neoplasm is diagnosed on average for about 600 children for the first time every year. On average, about 5,000 children with malignant neoplasms are treated at national centers for the year.
At present, the SCPPS is treating all malignant neoplasms in children, the availability and quality of medical services has improved, and the state is fully financing the service. In 2012, transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells in children was introduced.
The 25-year history of the children's oncohematological service has shown that today highly qualified specialists have been trained in this area, modern diagnostic and treatment technologies are being introduced, children with oncological and hematological diseases are being rehabilitated, and a great deal of awareness-raising work is being conducted with the population and on-duty primary care doctors.
Further success in treating childhood cancer in Kazakhstan will depend on timely early diagnosis, the active participation of our specialists in joint international educational and research projects, and the improvement of treatment technologies, including the transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells.
