Cardiothoracic Surgery Department SCPCS started operating since February 2012. Over the entire period of work, more than 800 open heart surgeries have been performed. Each year, 600 children with congenital heart defects and congenital defects of the peripheral vessels (arteriovenous, venous, lymphovenous, lymphatic malformations) are operated in this department. About 120-130 operations are performed annually in conditions of cardiopulmonary bypass (open heart). This department provides assistance not only to residents of Almaty. We accept children from all regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan. More than 40% of our patients was children of first 12 months of their life. Yearly, in this department more than 30-40 operations are performed in conditions of cardiopulmonary bypass for children in their first year of life (neonatal period). We have experience of complex reconstructive interventions on the heart of newborns. Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Roentgen-Endovascular Surgery is fully equipped with the most modern equipment. Cardiac surgeons are highly qualified and has passed qualification training in the leading clinics of Europe. Children with congenital heart defects requiring an intensive care course perhaps in specialized Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
The main directions of our work is:
- Cardiac surgery of complex CHD in infants and children of the first year of life.
- Multi-stage treatment of heart defects, including various methods of hemodynamic corrections.
- Including repeated and reconstructive interventions after previously performed operations in children of all age categories
- Roentgen surgical treatment of heart defects
- Roentgen surgical treatment of congenital arteriovenous, venous, lymphovenous, lymphatic malformations of any part except the brain.
TYPES OF SURGICAL INTERVENTIONS IN CONGENITAL HEART DEFECTS:
Emergency surgery of newborns with critical heart defects - arterial switching with transposition of the great vessels (TGV), correction different forms of a single ventricle of the heart (Hypoplastic right heart syndrome), correction of neonatal coarctation of the aorta, interruption of the aortic arch, total abnormal drainage of the pulmonary veins (extra-, intra- and infra-cardiac types), atresia of the pulmonary artery, common arterial trunk, aorto-pulmonary window and other critical defects of the neonatal period.
Correction of septal defects - Ventricular septal defect, Atrial septal defect (combination with total anomalous pulmonary venous).
Endovascular treatment of congenital heart defects - closure of Ventricular septal defects and Atrial septal defects, Patent ductus arteriosus by occlusal devices, balloon plastic surgery of aortic and lung stenosis, embolization and occlusion of systemic pulmonary anastomoses, malformations, stenting of the open ductus arteriosus with ductus dependent heart defects, aortic coarctation stenting, transluminal balloon manipulations on the heart valves).
Correction of Fallot defect groups - radical correction, stage surgery (systemic lung anastomoses with the corresponding radical operation). Correction of double discharge vessels from the right ventricle.
This operation is surgery of patients with a single gastrointestinal tract - a bidirectional cavapulmonary anastomosis operation (Glen operation) and the final stage is Fonten's operation.
Surgical correction of atrioventricular communication (AVС) defect groups - general and partial forms of AVС.
Correction of valvular defects - plastic atrioventricular valves, valve prosthetics.
Repeated operations to replace valves and valveless conduits, prosthetic heart valves.
Radical correction in case of abnormal coronary arteries discharges.
Interventions for tumors of the heart and mediastinum (including cardiac echinococcosis)
Surgical treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, (implantation of Artificial cardiac pacemaker).
Examination of patients with pulmonary hypertension of various etiology.
The department has repeatedly held master classes of pediatric cardiac surgery with the participation of specialists from foreign countries, such as Ukraine (March 2013, November 2013, May-June 2018), Poland (2014), Italy (October 2014, May 2015).
